A lot of preparation goes into making a product that involves both students and members of a community. Students meet with these members and learn more about them in preparation for the writing they will be doing. Everyone involved in the production makes decisions on how they want the final project to look before diving into making the actual product.

Students, through community involvement and attention to detail, commit hours of time to answering questions about the given subject matter.

After all the prep work has been done, students get into the real work of the project by interviewing members of the community and getting their stories down. Communication is very important during this final step, because the students want to make sure they’re representing the community accurately. Conversations are held in order to make sure the final product is something all parties are comfortable with.
